Gianmarco Raimondo and Team Autotecnica at CHIN Picnic

June 26, 2008 - St. Catharines, Ontario – Seventeen-year-old race driver Gianmarco Raimondo will be on hand this weekend at the annual CHIN Picnic held at Exhibition Place in Toronto. Members of Gianmarco's race team, Team Autotecnica, will also be on hand along with the Formula BMW FB02 race car that he Gianmarco drives in the Formula BMW Americas series. Gianmarco, in his first year in the series, currently leads the rookie championship. He was also the first rookie in series history to record wins in the first two races of the season, a feat he accomplished at the famed Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California last month.

An ambassador of the sport and for the series, the St. Catharines, Ontario teen was selected earlier this year as a member of the Formula BMW Junior Driver program. This development program teaches young drivers fitness training, race craft, how to deal with the media and even covers items such as nutrition to keep them in top form for this demanding sport. Gianmarco travels extensively across North America to compete in the 17-race series which also makes stops in Montreal and Sao Paulo, Brazil as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix events.

n addition to this hectic schedule, Gianmarco also likes to get close to the fans. He looks forward to opportunities such as attending the famous CHIN PIcnic where he can talk about auto racing - a favourite past-time for many of his fellow countrymen, enjoy some great food and take in the sights. Of course some of the more enjoyable sights for Gianmarco will be during the Miss CHIN Bikini contest on Saturday afternoon.

The CHIN Picnic starts this weekend, June 28 & 29 at The Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto starting at 12:00 p.m. each day. The event wraps up on Tuesday, July 1. Gianmarco will be at the event Saturday and Sunday only.
