Education & Coaching Program

These days, apart from physical fitness, aspects such as technical know-how, optimal car set-up, ongoing collaboration with the media, manufacturers and sponsors and comprehensive networking are just as crucial in determining victory or defeat as mastering the racing line or the right tactics.

The Education and Coaching Program consists of a series of comprehensive seminars that provide young drivers with the skills that they will need long term in the world of motorsports. Formula BMW Americas covers all essential disciplines of professional motor racing in the Education and Coaching Program, including driving techniques and tactics and car set-up in addition to fitness and nutrition, public relations and sponsorship. All promoted Junior drivers will attend these seminars throughout the season. Other drivers in the championship may also attend any of the courses should they so desire for a nominal fee.

Under the guidance of experts in their respective fields and with the backing of all of the resources available through BMW Motorsport, the juniors attend seminars tailored to their practical needs on the following aspects:
  • Driving Technique and Tactics
  • Vehicle Dynamics and Chassis Set-up
  • Fitness Training and Nutrition
  • Media Training and Public Relations
  • Sponsorship and Sports Management
The comprehensive Fitness Training and Nutrition course is an important part of the Education and Coaching Program. In fitness evaluations, individual training schedules detailing daily sport activities are developed for each driver and explained in detail. The candidates are in contact with the trainers throughout the season to track their results. Thus, their fitness development is monitored and re-adjusted throughout the entire season.

Drivers are also prepared for interaction with the press through a Media Training seminar which exposes them to dealing with journalists and getting their message across in a professional manner. Likewise, specific motorsport expressions and wordings are taught during the season.

Technical courses in understanding the intricacies of car set-up and driving technique analysis are also held. Engineers of BMW Motorsport and technical partners help the drivers to learn about mechanical and aerodynamic set-up. This thorough framework gives young drivers the skill to converse with and get answers from professionals.

The stars of the BMW Sauber F1 Team are also involved: During one of the Grand Prix weekends either in Montreal or Sao Paulo, the participants will have the chance to visit the BMW Sauber F1 Team garage - and there will be a meet & greet with the drivers and team executives.
